Sermon on the Mount

This section finishes chapter 5 with Jesus telling the crowds the true meaning of the Mosaic Law contrasted with the Oral Law of the Pharisees. Matt. 5:20 and 5:48 bracket this section to draw men everywhere to Him as the perfect, righteous Son of God who can do for them what they cannot do for themselves.

This section shows Jesus sharing the gospel with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well in Samaria. He patiently, beautifully, and individually shares with her and calls her from death to Life.

Jesus tells Nicodemus that He must be lifted up, an allusion to the cross, rooted in the story of the Israelites and Moses from Numbers… The subject of belief will dominate the rest of the conversation.

This section covers Jesus’ first cleansing of the Temple, His righteous anger at what He sees taking place in His Fathers House, and the signs that He performs in Jerusalem as He begins His ministry at Passover.

It’s Complete Joy

This lesson finished John chapter 3 and examines the joy that John the Baptist finds in fulfilling his purpose of pointing to Jesus; included is his famous statement, “He must increase and I must decrease!”

Calling Nathaniel and the Wedding at Cana

We cover Jesus calling Nathaniel to be a disciple and their subsequent trip to the wedding at Cana where Jesus performs His first miracle.

Sections 27 and 28 cover John’s declaration of Jesus as “The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” through Jesus beginning to call out His disciples.
